Hello my name is Michael Kehoe welcome to my website. The site began life as a university project and has been pretty much unused and neglected since I finished uni. Until now.
I am a web designer living in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Recently I have become interested in SEO. The competitiveness of it appeals to me, and I have been inspired by someone in Manchester who is (or at least claims to be) a novice in SEO.
In less than a year they have managed to climb to the top of the Google rankings for the search term SEO Manchester. I'm going to see how far I can go in emulating them for the search term "SEO Nottingham" so click on the link to the bottom of the page to see my SEO Nottingham experiment updates.

You must have noticed! These days every other person you meet regularly surf the internet in their mobile phone. Many of them don't need the internet at home because they have it on their phones.

SEO Nottingham Experiment
Ok a quick intoroduction to what the SEO Nottingham experiment is all about then we shall start.
I have taken a course on SEO at New college Nottingham and what I found was that nobody really knows what will make successful SEO because the search engines don't tell us.
We can get a lot of advise but I want to see the proof in the pudding. As with anything that we do not know about, there are several myths. I want to start eliminating these myths as they will cause me to waste an awful lot of time.
So every once in a while I am going to add or remove different SEO techniques and then search for "SEO Nottingham" in Google.
As you can imagine, "SEO Nottingham" is a pretty competitive search term and the people I am competing against will be just the sort of people who know exactly what they're doing.
So it will be interesting to see how i will fair in the race for rankings in the term SEO Nottingham and what techniques seem to work and the ones that don't.
The higher I get the more credible I will be as an SEO consultant. An appearance on page one would be lovely and show I can mix it with the big boys of SEO in Nottingham.
SEO Nottingham update 28/10/09
Ok I need to do a quick SEO Nottingham update. My site badly needs redisigning and new content, so little time atm. An 'SEO Nottingham' search now has my site at the bottom of page 2. After I had re-written the page, I re-uploaded it 2 weeks ago and after a few days I found it on page 5. Number 44 for a Google search for SEO Nottingham. It fluctuated between 39-45 for about 10 daysbefore jumping to number 23!. It now fluctuates between 25-18. My highest position yet for an SEO Nottingham search.
SEO Nottingham update 19/11/09
I think its time for another SEO Nottingham search update. I haven't really done a lot since the last time. And I know I know my website is still in desperate need of a revamp both content and design wise.
One thing I did was to add my site to directories gumtree and digg. I was hoping that the links to my website would help in the rankings. However they overtook my site and for a while for an SEO Nottingham search my site had totally disappeared but the gumtree one was there. To be fair, I got a couple of enquiries via referals from gumtree so it could be worthwhile.
But for the purposes of my own website's rankings it didn't help. It ended up going back to normal and today a search for SEO Nottingham sees my website at number 17. I will need to raise my game to reach page one.
As yet the highest I have reached is number 16 for an SEO Nottingham search.
SEO Nottingham update 25/01/10
It has been quite a long time time since my last SEO Nottingham update and I haven;t really been able to work on my site with Christams, new year and going on holiday taking priority.
However I have decided tto do an update now because I have found my site on the bottom of page one for SEO Nottingham which i guess shows that when you have some SEO stratergies in place it is a good idea to wait and let google take its course.
Having said that maybe it will drop straight of the first page again but I'll keep trying to improve its position. More SEO Nottingham updates coming soon.
